The Department of Biology at Georgia State University invites applications for a full-time Academic Professional position to begin in July 2023. The mission of the Department of Biology is to excel in life science research and education. We are committed to the success of our highly diverse student population in the classroom and in their pursuit of competitive academic and professional opportunities after graduation. Academic Professionals at Georgia State are non-tenure track faculty with both service (51%) and teaching (49%) requirements. Service includes development of effective teaching methods and exercises in a laboratory course series introducing fundamental concepts in microbiology and genetics. Service also includes supervision of teaching laboratory operations and recruitment and training of teaching assistants. This is a full-time, 12-month, renewable appointment with opportunities for promotion to the ranks of Senior Academic Professional and Principal Senior Academic Professional.

Essential Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field
- Ability to teach microbiology and genetics to majors as well as non-majors in lab and lecture courses
- Experience with teaching microbiology and genetics laboratory courses
- Commitment to integrate active learning to increase student engagement
- Commitment to relate well to students from diverse backgrounds
- Willingness to teach in face-to-face, hybrid, or on-line modalities
- Experience supervising teaching laboratory operations, including recruitment and training of teaching assistants
- Readiness to infuse teaching labs with engaging and impactful hands-on activities and to be progressive in laboratory pedagogy
- Strong research background in microbiology or genetics
- A commitment to departmental, university, and/or public service
